Rapid HIV Antibody Testing Using the Stat-Pak Test |

DESCRIPTION: |
This one-day course trains HIV Counseling, Testing & Referral (CTR) staff in protocols, quality assurance, and counseling issues related to conducting rapid HIV testing with Stat-Pak. Participants learn detailed steps in conducting the test, how to integrate the test with other CTR activities, and how to develop systems to assure quality testing including the proper use of documentation and record-keeping. Participants complete a competency assessment by conducting the test and interpreting the result on six specimens. Participants also participate in role-plays to practice pre-test counseling, prevention counseling, and post-test counseling in the context of rapid testing.
REQUIREMENTS: Participants should be affiliated with a CTR agency approved to conduct rapid testing by the Wisconsin AIDS/HIV Program. Approved agencies must have: A CLIA laboratory certificate allowing waived testing Bloodborne pathogen control plan A designated staff overseeing quality assurance of rapid testing on-site

This one-day workshop provides an introduction to HIV/AIDS for practitioners beginning to work in the field of HIV prevention. It provides basic information about HIV transmission, the epidemic in Wisconsin, including populations at highest risk, prevention interventions, prevention resources in Wisconsin, and more. The workshop focuses on the socio-behavioral aspects of the epidemic rather than biomedical aspects of the infection.

Individuals who are transgender have been identified by the State AIDS/HIV Program as a population at high risk of HIV transmission. This one-day workshop provides an opportunity to gain increased understanding and comfort addressing gender issues as a foundation for providing culturally competent HIV prevention and care services. Participants will identify issues and strategies for individuals and agencies to enhance services for individuals who are transgender. |

DESCRIPTION: |
NOTE: Course name change. This course is the same as was previously named HIV Partner Counseling & Referral Services (PCRS) New Provider Training.
This required two-day orientation training for Wisconsin Local Health Department staff provides an overview of Wisconsin HIV PS and the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to provide HIV PS in Wisconsin. Only Wisconsin Local Health Department staff who are currently or intend to provide PS should register.
PRE-REQUISITES Currently employed by a local health department that is a designated provider of PCRS/PS. Completion of the following three courses: Foundations for HIV Prevention in WI course, Basic Counseling Skills for HIV Prevention course, and HIV Counseling, Testing & Referral (CTR) Services Program New Provider Training course.
Training begins promptly at 8:00 am and concludes at 4:30 pm. Lunch will be provided both days.

DESCRIPTION: |
This two-day workshop provides an overview of HIV antibody counseling, testing, and referral (CTR) services. It includes a description of the history of CTR services, HIV antibody testing algorithms, oral fluid collection, relevant statues, WI AIDS/HIV CTR objectives, program protocols, and data collection requirements, HIV care & treatment advances and community resources. In addition, the course is designed to build upon skills from previous workshops to support providers develop test decision counseling skills, give test results, and link consumers to available resources.
Registration is restricted to staff of agencies serving as publicly-funded HIV Counseling, Testing, and Referral (CTR) or HIV Partner Counseling and Referral Services (PCRS) testing sites. Persons wishing to register who are not directly associated with an HIV CTR or PCRS site MUST contact the WI HIV CTR Coordinator, Jim Stodola, at 608-261-9429.
