Foundations for HIV Prevention in Wisconsin   
** Audience: Individuals associated with Wisconsin agencies providing HIV prevention. **   
This one-day workshop provides an introduction to HIV/AIDS for practitioners beginning to work in the field of HIV prevention. It provides basic information about HIV transmission, the epidemic in Wisconsin, including populations at highest risk, prevention interventions, prevention resources in Wisconsin, and more. The workshop focuses on the socio-behavioral aspects of the epidemic rather than biomedical aspects of the infection.

Basic Counseling Skills for HIV Prevention    
** Required course for WI AIDS/HIV Program- HIV Counseling, Testing & Referral (CTR) Program providers, Partner Counseling & Referral Services (PCRS) providers, and Rapid HIV Antibody Testing providers. Audience: Individuals associated with Wisconsin agencies providing HIV prevention. **   
This two-day workshop provides an introduction to counseling skills that are essential for effective HIV prevention counseling in a variety of settings, including community-based organizations and other venues. Participants learn about the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) counseling protocol and have opportunities to develop counseling skills in the context of HIV prevention.

HIV Counseling, Testing & Referral (CTR) Service Program: New Provider Training   
** Required course for WI AIDS/HIV Program- HIV Counseling, Testing & Referral (CTR) Program providers, Partner Counseling & Referral Services (PCRS) providers, and Rapid HIV Antibody Testing providers. Audience: Individuals associated with Wisconsin publicly supported testing sites, local health departments, tribal clinics, and STD clinics. **   
This two-day workshop provides an overview of HIV antibody counseling, testing, and referral (CTR) services. It includes a description of the history of CTR services, HIV antibody testing algorithms, oral fluid collection, relevant statues, WI AIDS/HIV CTR objectives, program protocols, and data collection requirements, HIV care & treatment advances and community resources. In addition, the course is designed to build upon skills from previous workshops to support providers develop test decision counseling skills, give test results, and link consumers to available resources.

Registration is restricted to staff of agencies serving as publicly-funded HIV Counseling, Testing, and Referral (CTR) or HIV Partner Counseling and Referral Services (PCRS) testing sites. Persons wishing to register who are not directly associated with an HIV CTR or PCRS site MUST contact the WI HIV CTR Coordinator, Jim Stodola, at 608-261-9429.

Partner Counseling and Referral Services (PCRS) Program: New Provider Training   
** Required course for WI AIDS/HIV Program Partner Counseling and Referral Services (PCRS) Program Providers. Audience: Only Wisconsin Local Health Department staff who are currently or intend to provide PCRS should register. **   
This required two-day training for Wisconsin Local Health Department staff provides an opportunity for participants to gain the knowledge and skills needed to provide PCRS. The training provides an overview of the fundamentals of PCRS, including the principles behind PCRS and the policies and procedures followed by PCRS providers. The course provides a framework to examine ways to approach challenging counseling situations, including notifying sex and needle-sharing partners of their risk for HIV infection. Participants learn how to effectively refer and assist clients and partners in accessing needed health and support services.    
PRE-REQUISITES: Currently employed by a local health department that is a designated provider of PCRS. Completion of the following three courses: Foundations for HIV Prevention in WI course, Basic Counseling Skills for HIV Prevention course, and HIV Counseling, Testing & Referral (CTR) Services Program New Provider Training course.

Rapid HIV Antibody Testing Using the Stat-Pak Test   
** Completion of Foundations for HIV Prevention in Wisconsin, Basic Counseling Skills for HIV Prevention and HIV Counseling, Testing, and Referral (CTR) Service Program: New Provider Training is required before attending this training. Audience: Only for staff of Wisconsin agencies providing Rapid HIV Antibody Testing. **   
This one-day course trains HIV Counseling, Testing & Referral (CTR) staff in protocols, quality assurance, and counseling issues related to conducting rapid HIV testing with Stat-Pak. Participants learn detailed steps in conducting the test, how to integrate the test with other CTR activities, and how to develop systems to assure quality testing including the proper use of documentation and record-keeping. Participants complete a competency assessment by conducting the test and interpreting the result on six specimens. Participants also participate in role-plays to practice pre-test counseling, prevention counseling, and post-test counseling in the context of rapid testing.   
PRE-REQUISITES: Participants should be affiliated with a CTR agency approved to conduct rapid testing by the Wisconsin AIDS/HIV Program. Approved agencies must have: A CLIA laboratory certificate allowing waived testing, bloodborne pathogen control plan, a designated staff overseeing quality assurance of rapid testing on-site, contact with Kathleen Krchnavek, HIV CTR Specialist (608-267-3583 or krchnka@dhfs.state.wi.us) to provide documentation of the requirements listed above. Completion of Foundations for HIV Prevention in Wisconsin, Completion of Basic Counseling Skills for HIV Prevention, and Completion of HIV Counseling, Testing, and Referral (CTR) Service Program: New Provider Training.

It's Time! Integrating Viral Hepatitis Into Your Work   
** Audience: Individuals associated with Wisconsin agencies or Health Departments. **   
Integrating viral hepatitis prevention, care, vaccination and treatment improves the quality of life and survival of people who are living with and are at risk for viral hepatitis. This one-day workshop provides information, tools and skills to tailor viral hepatitis services in various settings, including HIV prevention programs, sexually transmitted disease clinics, and local public health departments. The course is designed for individuals providing direct services for people at risk for hepatitis or living with hepatitis, as well as program managers interested in integrating viral hepatitis services into their settings.

Social Networks: Prevention Interventions for MSM

This new one-day course provides service providers with essential information to more effectively serve men who have sex with men (MSM), a population that continues to be at high risk for HIV transmission. It addresses diversity among this population and the critically important role of social and sexual networks in supporting the health and well-being of these men. In addition to learning about the current status of the HIV epidemic as it affects MSM, the workshop provides an opportunity to learn how individual, group, community-based, and policy level strategies can strengthen and support men who have sex with men, and the communities of which they are a part.

Working More Effectively with Deaf People in HIV/AIDS Settings   
** Audience: Individuals associated with Wisconsin agencies, including HIV/AIDS service providers, supervisors, managers, and frontline staff **   
This one-day workshop provides HIV prevention service workers with an opportunity to increase knowledge and skills to more effectively provide HIV prevention services for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. It addresses differences among communities of individuals who are born deaf and those who acquire a hearing loss, especially with regard to language, culture and communication issues. Discussion focuses on using qualified interpreters effectively and appropriately. The course addresses issues related to HIV/AIDS in the deaf communities, and strategies to overcome barriers in providing culturally competent education, prevention, treatment and referral services. The workshop also provides an opportunity to try out various appliances and technologies to facilitate agencies’ abilities to serve the deaf community.

CDC Satellite Video Conference Broadcast   
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) periodically provides satellite broadcasts on selected topics related to HIV/AIDS. The Wisconsin HIV Training System arranges sites in Wisconsin for viewing the broadcasts. Program topics are listed on the website http://www.wihiv.wisc.edu/trainingsystem when they are announced by CDC. The broadcasts can be viewed live or at a later date on computers with Internet and Real Player capability through the CDC website at http://www2a.cdc.gov/phtn. In addition, the Training System makes available for loan videotapes of the broadcasts.

Walking the Talk for Wellness: Self-care for Helping Professionals   
Helping professionals are often drawn to the work because of the opportunity to serve others. The needs are great, the demands are constant, the resources are few, and the physical and emotional toll is real. This one-day workshop is designed to nurture helping professionals who give so much of themselves and struggle to find a balance that includes self-care. on an intellectual level we know hot o promote personal wellness, yet on a personal level many of us find it very difficult to do. This workshop provides an opportunity for helping professionals to explore practical ideas for overcoming roadblocks to self-care. It is an opportunity to become rejuvenated and learn approaches to maintaining a more comfortable balance in your life.

EvaluationWeb Booster Training   
** An agency need only send people to attend the session which is appropriate for that agency. Audience: Data entry personnel and/or evaluators who are associated with Wisconsin Agencies. **   
These half-day refresher courses explain how to navigate and enter data into the Wisconsin AIDS/HIV Program’s new reporting system, "EvaluationWeb". Agencies are required to use EvaluationWeb to report on HIV testing activities and for quarterly reporting of prevention activities. Different training sessions are offered to focus on various interventions. The CTR session is for staff of designated HIV CTR sites. The HERR session is for staff from agencies providing individual, group, outreach, and capacity-building interventions, as well as PCM.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth develop in predictable and adaptive ways that can have lasting impact on their emotional, social, and physical health. This course examines the context in which today’s LGBT youth are developing and will assist participants in finding ways to foster healthy development among youth, whether LGBT identified or not.
